From M. Duckers:-

I BELIEVE car boot sales are a good thing. Pensioners and people on very low money are often very glad to be able to buy goods they need at a boot sale because they can not afford to buy them new.

I cannot see how this would affect Birkenehad traders in any way if car booters were not allowed to sell 'new' items.

Good quality secondhand goods at a reasonable price is what a lot of people want. There must also be a rule that each boot seller cleans up after themselves or they do not get in again.

Considering the parking problems that occurs for local residents, I believe Mersey Park would be one of several ideal locations.

The money collected from the boot sellers could go towards our council. No matter what you do you will always get a minority of people who will complain.

Tranmere.

From Mr Evans:

I AM just one of thousands of people who used to look forward to browsing around the car boot sales on Sundays.

I am a pensioner with a bus pass, and I used it to get about to the boot sales. Now I have to travel to Walton Hospital to get to a decent boot sale. There seems to be quite a few car boot sales over there but hardly any big ones over this side of the river.

Moreton Shore car boot sale was closed because of a few complainers and market stall holders. I just can't see how it interferes with the Market which isn't even open on Sundays.

Surely, the people who live in the areas around Moreton Shore could allow us just half a day a week doing what we like to, browsing the car boot sales.

I hope the council can have a change of heart and give us back our boot sales.

From Jim McCulloch:-

WHAT gives the Council the idea that they alone have the right to a Market Monopoly? The Council have closed many market type outlets (Seacombe Boys Club for instance). I do not think parking or neighbours had anything to do with the closure of Leasowe car boot sale.

Anything that gives people controlled pleasure, turns over money, gives people a means to earn a living, and creates a healthy interest cannot be curtailed by Councils or Councillors or Police or anyone else. All these people are in positions that should act in the interest of the people and the community. Markets should be allowed anywhere and in any building that is suitable, after all England is still a free country. I think?
