SPORTING history was made when West Kirby's 17-year-old wonderwoman, Katheryn Peberdy, won the gold medal at the World Sports Acrobatics Championships in Manchester - the first ever British World Champion female Tumbler!
British Tumbling Champion Katheryn, a student at West Cheshire College, trains with West Kirby Gymnastics Club, which has produced many champions over the years. It specialises in Sports Acrobatics and is regarded as a 'Centre of Excellence.'
Said Katheryn: "Before the Championships, I just hoped to get in the top five. Getting a Gold medal is beyond my wildest dreams!"
Melanie Thompson, who trains with Katheryn under the supervision of coach Bev Savage, has also enjoyed success in Tumbling championships and along with Kath has been an ever present with the Great Britain squad. Melanie had an ankle problem this time, but still managed to improve on her 13th placing last year to finish 11th.
