BROMBOROUGH Pool turned the form book upside down in defeating local rivals Stork 3-2 in Saturday's Pyke Cup first round tie. An own goal and a Terry Williams double took them to victory against opponents who had previously gone six games unbeaten. Ian Dunroe and Lee Crowther were on target for last year's beaten finalists.

Cammell Laird were made to pay for missing a host of first-half chances as their tie at Vauxhall went to extra time, with Gary Washington and a penalty by former Lairds man Ken Berry eventually producing a 2-0 success for the Motormen.

Strikes by Chris Durkin, Graham Steele and John Cody took holders Heswall to a 3-1 victory at Christleton, who netted a late consolation through John King.

Nicky Dillon was a four goal marksman as Poulton Victoria overwhelmed Newton 8-0. Tim Foreman fired a hat-trick and Stu Jones got the other.

Despite being under strength, Mersey Royal put paid to Ashville's unbeaten record with Jason Berry hitting both in a 2-0 success.

There was no joy for Moreton, who went down 5-0 at home to rampant Shell (Kevin Leach, 2, Lloyd Oldfield, 2, and Robbie Manning).

In Division Two, Manor Athletic twice came from behind to collect their first win of the season in emphatic style, triumphing 5-2 at Capenhurst Reserves, with goals by Lee Ellis, 2, Alan Newton, Dave Cooper and substitute Paul Smith, who scored with his first touch.

New Brighton hit top form with a 3-1 victory at Poulton Vics Reserves, Tim Gilbert, 2, and Ray Alson on target.

Stork Reserves moved into third spot with an 8-1 hammering of Bromborough Pool Reserves. Ben McHugh hit four goals, Paul Scarisbrook two and the others came from Ian Hopwood and an own goal.

Keith Rooney scored as league leaders Heswall Reserves came from behind to snatch a 1-1 draw with visiting Christleton Reserves, who had taken the lead through Clive Vernall's penalty.

John McClellan, Anthony Fry, Brian Johnson and Dave McDermott scored for Ashville Reserves in an excellent 4-1 win at General Chemicals, but Mersey Royal Reserves went down 5-1 at home to Castrol Social, with John Farrell, 2, Tony Livens, Paul O'Brien and Ian Scarisbrook on target.RESULTS:
