TRIBUTES were paid at Liverpool Crown Court to barrister Graham Morris, a Neston resident, whose funeral took place last week.

Judge David Lynch, who used to be in the same chambers in Martins Buildings, Water Street, described him as talented lawyer, who was "a bright star".

"A first class legal mind and abundance of common sense do not always go hand in hand but Graham had both in full measure."

Mr Morris, who was 44-years-old, specialised in commercial law after being called to the Bar by Grays Inn in 1975.

He discovered he was seriously ill about a year ago but "with characteristic courage, patience and determination" fought back and gradually returned to work.

Mr Morris had a very large practice and worked long hours but never lost his sense of humour, he said.

He was appointed as an Assistant Recorder shortly before his illness was diagnosed and proudly sat for three weeks in Preston, Barrow and Burnley this Summer.

"We will remember him as a devoted family man, valued friend and a lawyer of exceptional ability."

Richard Henriques, QC, Leader of the Northern Circuit, also paid tribute to Mr Morris and said that he would undoubtedly have become a judge or QC.

At a recent legal dinner Mr Morris, who had come from hospital, received a standing ovation when he arrived. "Here was one of the Circuit's favourite sons back among us," he said.

Mr Henriques added that the message to Mr Morris's widow, Helen, who is also a barrister, and his family is: "We are proud of Graham Morris."

Mr Morris was a member of Caldy Golf Club and the flag was at half mast after his death in respect.
