TORRENTIAL rain made the eight laps of the one mile course almost imposssible when Birkenhead North End Cycling Club held its Cycle Cross Championship in Delamere Forest.
Winner David Lethbridge was followed home by John Moores (2nd) and Chris Byrne (3rd). Prizes were donated by The Bike Factory, Chester.
Pensby daredevil, 77-year-old Doug Phillips, battled on and won the Veterans Award at his first attempt, leaving the rest of the field miles behind!
Said Doug: "Don't think you're finished at 50!"
