Carlsberg West Cheshire League round-up with Ray Condliffe

WITH the majority of Saturday's programme falling victim of the weather, Poulton Victoria took full advantage by moving up to second place in Division One with an 11-0 mauling of bottom placed Moreton.

Vics ran up a 3-0 lead in the opening 15 minutes and after holding a 4-0 interval advantage they dispelled any thoughts of easing up by rattling in a further seven without reply after the break. Goal machine Simon Lewis fired a hat-trick with doubles for Nicky Dillon, Paul Connor, Dave Galloway and Ian Doran, who included a tremendous trade mark free-kick in his brace.

Vics manager Alvin McDonald received the November Manager of the Month award prior to the game and he must be delighted with his side's chances of retaining the title.

But it is a different story for new Moreton manager Steve Wade as he takes charge of a team still seeking their first win of the campaign.

A powerful second-half performance earned Heswall their biggest win for three months when they overcame hosts Capenhurst 4-1. Veteran Ken Gore answered Heswall's injury crisis call by wiping out Ian Parry's opener. With the scores locked at 1-1 at the break, Heswall moved up a gear and strikes by Chris Durkin, Chris Williams (penalty) and Damien Lepts earned the visitors a well deserved three points.

A second-half Dave Brooks goal for Merseyside Police proved to be the undoing of Cammell Lairds at Fairfield.

In the only Division Two encounter of the day, West Kirby spurned a two goal interval advantage to draw 2-2 with visiting Willaston. Neil Pulson and Mark Chandler had netted for the Seasiders, who also had a second-half spot kick saved by Willaston 'keeper Ian Stewart.

The visitors' scoring hero was Ian Smith, who netted twice, including a penalty which earned the league's bottom club their first point in 10 outings.
