JAVELIN thrower Nicola Broome is on top of the world after winning an award for consistent performances in women's field events during 1997.
Nicola, aged 14, has had an outstanding year and is pictured receiving the Wellock Shield from Cade Barnes, President of Wirral Athletic Club.
Nicola is placed fifth in the national ranking tables with a throw of 34.82m, bettered only by a throw of 37.32m by Samantha Redd, of Southern Counties.
Next year is expected to be a tough campaign for Nicola, who moved up to the Under-17 ladies, although she is not 15 until June, 1998! Nicola will be looking primarily to qualify for the English Schools' Championships for the second year running.
