THE YEAR ended on a stormy note, with gales claiming the lives of two women on Merseyside in separate traffic accidents on Christmas Eve.

In the first, Susan Seanor, aged 44, died when her car was in a collision with another vehicle in a windswept Penny Lane, Liverpool. Her passenger was named as John Barr, aged 51, of Bromborough, who received a finger injury.

Twenty minutes later, Lesley Brammer, aged 31, from Staffordshire, died instantly when a tree fell on her car in Plymyard Avenue, Bromborough. Previously, a teenage motorist escaped unhurt after his car crashed into a wall of the Clegg Arms, Chester Road, Heswall.

Trees were blown down and roofs damaged all over Wirral as storms continued on Chrstmas Day.
