A THREE car assault on the Le Mans 24-hour endurance race will feature in a varied Toyota world motorsports programme in 1998. The company will support its distributors in some 300 motorsport events in about 25 countries in 1998.

Toyota Team Europe will enter an all-new GT1 category car at La Sarthe on June 13. Next year will be the first time the official factory team has contested Le Mans since the TS010 car competed in 1993. The 1998 GT1 car will be dubbed the TS020 and ex-F1 driver and TV commentator Martin Brundle will be one of the drivers.

Existing support of two teams in the 19-round Indy Car World Series will continue in 1998. Toyota supports two teams, the All American Racers and Arcerio-Wells Racing, mainly through development and supply of engines via Toyota motor sales.

With five rounds of testing now completed in the World Rally Championship this year, Toyota is ready to mount a full assault on the 1998 championship with its sophisticated Corolla World Car Rally.

Toyota rally drivers will be Carlos Sainz and Didier Auriol with selected support drives from Finn Marcos Gronholm and Belgian Freddy Loix. The 14-round World Rally Championship begins with the famous Monte Carlo Rally in January.
