NEW cars sold in Britain are getting faster and thirstier! Figures just published by Autocar show the average car tested produces 186 bhp and can reach nought to 60 mph in just 8.7 seconds.
The figures in the annual roadtest book show the average fuel consumption has dipped since 96, from 26.7 mpg to 26 mpg.
Cars tested range from a three cylinder Daihatsu Cuore to the 10 cylinder Viper sports car, available via Cubbin and North. This is the most powerful in Viper Venom form putting out 635 bhp while that Daihatsu is least powerful at 42 bhp.
The Porchse GTi is the most expensive at £457,075 and fastest at 192 mph. A sobering thought, as the Daihatsu is only £6,500 while tax on the Porchse tops £60,000.
