OLDERSHAW got home 12-11 against Aspull in the Thwaites North West League Division One, on Saturday, but Birkenhead Park failed 18-23 against Aldwinians.

Skipper Willy Gardner was Oldershaw's match winner with four penalties. It was a defence dominated affair with the only try going to the visitors, but, happily for the victors, the conversion was missed.

Birkenhead paid the penalty for silly mistakes, a breakaway try tilting the balance in Aldwinians' favour. Neil Brelsford and Lee Highway scored tries and Tom Mapp two penalties and a conversion.

Table-toppers Caldy came a cropper at home to second placed Kirby Lonsdale in Thwaites North West League Division Two. It finished 15-47, but Caldy remain top. Greg Watterson scored a couple of tries and Ian Cropper a conversion and a penalty.

Anselmians lost 0-5 at Crewe and Nantwich in South Lancashire/Cheshire League Division One, but Wirral kept up the pressure on leaders Warrington with a 20-7 victory over Southport.

Simon Hignett, Tony Higgins and Andy Povey went over for the home outfit and Hignett also targeted a penalty and a conversion.

A penalty by Kevin Parker earned Wallasey a 3-0 success in Division Two at Marple, but Parkonians just lost 15-18 at Birchfield.

Prenton had no game, but Hoylake and Port Sunlight won club clashes.

Hoylake were 20-0 victors against Halton with tries via Richard Young, Trevor Boult and Alan Robinson. Max Williams landed a penalty and a conversion.

Mike Dorney grabbed a hat-trick of touch downs for Sunlight. There were also tries for Phil Cullen and Tony Youd, plus a John Loxam goal, in a 27-0 scoreline at Burtonwood.
