BIRKENHEAD MP Frank Field wants it to be known that, contrary to some reports, he is continuing to hold regular surgeries in Birkenhead. Although his workload has increased since becoming Minister of State for Welfare Reform, Mr Field says he is here for constituents.

Surgeries are held on the second and fourth Friday of each month at Birkenhead Town Hall registrar's office. On the few occasions Mr Field is unavoidably detained, a councillor will be present.

LAW firm Gregory Abrams has appointed 26-year-old Lynn Evans, of Claughton, director of communications and human resources. Her job is to improve internal communications at the Liverpool branch offices as well as external communications.

THE area around the back of Hamilton Square continues to be improved. Old garages and walls are to be demolished and new parking bays established.

PROBATION centre offices are proposed near to the new Business and Management Centre Europa Boulevard, Birkenhead.

THE old maternity hospital, Grange Mount, Birkenhead, is to be converted into five flats, subject to planning permission. Part of the non-Listed building will be demolished to provide nine more residential units.

ST Anselm's College, Claughton, has re-applied for planning permission for temporary classrooms at the Devonshire Place site.

GOING Places, the travel agent in Milton Pavement, Birkenhead town centre, has won an award for customer service and sales. Manager Maria Sanchez received the prize at a managers' conference in Disneyland, Paris.
