STAFF and regulars at The Dell public house, Birkenhead, hosted a surprise party for the pub's longest serving bar person, Jenny Boyle, on her retirement.

Jenny, 65, has pulled pints at the Greenalls pub in Prenton Hall Road for a staggering 20 years and has worked for all five licensees who have run The Dell since it opened in 1965.

Said licensee Pat: "Jenny has done a brilliant job behind the bar and she's really well liked by all the regulars, so we couldn't let her have a quiet send off.

"The pub was packed with customers as well as Jenny's other friends and family."

Regulars clubbed together to present Jenny with a clock, over £100, champagne and flowers.

Said Jenny: "The pub's first licensee Mr Holt showed me the ropes when I first joined the pub in 1978 and I never thought I'd be working at the pub for the next two decades.

"Over the years I've seen customers come and go and watched local children grow up to become regulars at the pub.

"I'm going to miss everybody and it's a shame I will not be able to work with Pat and John for longer - but I'll still pop in for a drink."
