NESTON will remain a green and pleasant place to live well into the next century.

Plans for Neston and Ellesmere Port are on display at Neston Town Hall and Neston Library this week. They show how the council plans to develop the borough up until Year 2011.

There are no proposed changes to the Green Belt surrounding Neston, Burton, or Willaston. And there are no new major house developments earmarked for Neston or the surrounding villages.

There are plans to further enhance the river front at Parkgate and improve viability in Neston's declining town centre. A new supermarket is proposed and a relief road for Neston town centre, although the council says certain criteria will have to be met. The store will have to be compatible to town trade. Proper provision will have to be made for Neston Market should the store go on that site.

The Deposit Plans says Neston town centre is in a number of different ownerships. If necessary, to facilitate a new retail development to benefit the town, the borough council will consider compulsory purchase powers.

The Deposit Plan follows consultation with local people. Any objections must be sent to Ellesmere Port and Neston Council by March 9.

There are also plans to safeguard the character of Parkgate Conservation Area, of unique character in Cheshire. It is attractive to tourists and has the atmosphere of a seaside resort with no sea, or ships.

Parkgate's Parade streetscape is of 'unique character', but traffic and deteriorating buildings are giving cause for concern. Opportunities will be taken to improve this Conservation Area, while encouraging pedestrians and cyclists.
