A YOUNG Upton man owned a £170 air rifle for just four hours before the police intervened.

Wirral magistrates confirmed the confiscation of the weapon when 20-year-old Paul McHarron faced them.

McHarron, of Larcombe Avenue, admitted discharging the weapon within 50 feet of the highway near his home. He was conditionally discharged for a year on payment of £30 costs.

McHarron told police that he was trying to shoot a milk cartoon, firing three pellets and hitting it twice.

POLICE had to use CS gas twice to calm a drunken man, it was alleged at Wirral Magistrates' Court.

Paul Jones, aged 26, spat at one officer, said prosecutor Rob Jones.

Jones, of Hoole Road, Woodchurch, was convicted of being drunk and disorderly and assaulting PC Johnson in the execution of his duty.

He admitted on a different date theft of three-litre bottles of whisky worth £45.87 from the Pioneer store.

John, who claimed the spitting was accident, was put on probation for two years but had to pay £25 compensation to the officer, £15.29 for one bottle of whisky and £95 court costs.
