ISUZU's futuristic-looking Vehi-CROSS, previewed at last year's motor shows in both London and Glasgow, has won a series of top awards in its home market of Japan, currently the only country where the sports utility is on sale.

Designed in Birmingham by Isuzu's Chief Designer, Englishman Simon Cox, Vehi-CROSS proved an instant success in Japan when it was launched in April, 1997.

Vehi-CROSS won the following accolades - 1997 Good Design Product by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry; 1997/98 Japan Car of the Year - special award, and Super Goods of the Year, Silver prize - Mono Magazine.

Based on the chassis and mechanicals of the short wheelbase Isuzu Trooper, Vehi-CROSS boasts powerful, sporty, new millennium styling cues. Technical highlights include 'Torque-On-Demand' 4x4 transmission with fascia indicator showing the proportion of drive being sent to each axle.

Production is limited to 250 units per month but Isuzu (UK) Ltd continues to press the factory for permission to import a small annual volume
