THE Floral Pavilion in New Brighton is showcase for one of the youngest casts ever to perform 'Barnum' - one of the most challenging shows written - later this month.

Stage One, the youth section of Wallasey Operatic Society, is staging Merseyside's amateur premiere of the legendary circus musical over three days from February 19 to 21, and organisers are promising a spectacular and professional show.

The youthful cast is led by 16-year-old Luke Gibbard, who is believed to be the youngest actor ever to play Barnum. His sister Georgina, 14, takes the role of Jenny Lind, while Charity Barnum is played by 15-year old Melanie Foster. Also keeping it in the family is Luke and Georgina's mum Diana, a professional dressmaker, who has made all the principal costumes for the show.

The whole company, whose ages range from 10 to 17, has learnt intricate circus skills for the production. Luke has even practised tightrope walking at night and in the rain in the family's garden in Wallasey. And that's not the end of his talents . . . Luke has also mastered juggling, magic tricks and stilt walking. He is, say Stage One bods-in-the-know, 'a natural'.

Tickets, which start from £2.50, are available from the Floral Pavilion box office on 639 4189. This is one not to miss!
