POULTON Victoria continued their defence of the Cheshire Amateur Cup, on Saturday, marching into the semi-finals with a 9-2 demolition of Mid Cheshire League club Lostock Gralam. Nicky Dillon, 2, John Lucas, 2, Simon Lewis, Dave Galloway, Tim Forman, Stu Jones and Ian Doran were their scorers.

New Brighton have done it again! Just seven days after removing Shell from the same competition, it was the turn of Vauxhall to taste defeat at the hands of the Second Division outfit.

An early Robbie Gerrard goal was enough to bring them Saturday's success. Their reward is a semi-final with Ashville, who were also single goal quarter-final winners at Newton.

A scrappy encounter, the home side were reduced to 10 men before the interval, Alan McMahon emerging as the Ashville hero as he hit a second-half winner.

Making a semi-final clean sweep for the Carlsberg West Cheshire League are Second Division General Chemicals, who were clearer winners than the 1-0 scoreline at Linotype suggests. Lee Gray was the marksman.

In the top Division One clash of the day, hosts Stork failed to repeat their recent Wirral Senior Cup win over Shell.

Despite 'keeper Matty Evans being sent-off on the half hour, it was the visitors who created the greater number of chances as the match ended goal-less.

Moreton, with Steve Woods and John Murray on target, came close to ending a 15 match losing run when going down by the odd goal in five at Cammell Laird, who had Mike Saunders, 2, plus an own goal sealing their victory.

Heswall threw away an early lead through Dominic Barrett to lose 2-1 to visiting Christleton (Graham Jones, Colin Read).

Mike Potter's last minute winner helped Mersey Royal to a 1-0 win at Merseyside Police, while Bromborough Pool had a fruitless visit to Mond Rangers, who had Karl Thomas, 2, and Paul Dwyer on the mark in a 3-0 success.

Division Two leaders Stork Reserves, with Ben McHugh (2) and Greg Hunter on target, edged out Vauxhall Reserves 3-2, who replied through Chris Moore and Kevin Cole, while almost but not quite veteran yet, Ken Gore fired a sensational hat-trick as Heswall Reserves won 5-2 at Manor Athletic (told you Ken, Ray!).
