TALENTED athlete Brendan Kennedy is making quite a name for himself in the national rankings . . .

For the 10-year-old Wirral AC all-rounder appears no less than SIX times in the Under-11 list of the country's top competitors.

Brendan, who lives in Tranmere and is a pupil at Woodchurch Road Primary School, is ranked No 1 for the 80m sprint in a time of 11.3 seconds and holds No 2 ranking in three other events - long jump (4m 39), 75m sprint (10.7 secs) and 150m sprint (21.5 secs).

In addition, he is ranked third for the 100m sprint (14.26 secs) and sixth for the 200m sprint (30.8 secs).

Reigning Wirral AC champion for his age group at 80m and 150m, as well as for the long jump, Brendan has represented Wirral with success at the annual Merseyside Youth Games and forms part of a family trio of athletes - his brother Michael, aged 11, is a middle distance runner and sister Nichola, aged 14, is an accomplished hurdler, both also with Wirral AC.

Brendan's budding athletic career is being guided by Wirral AC coach Pat Spencer and proud father Pat Kennedy said: "Brendan is a great hurdler, too - he came second in the 60m hurdles at the Merseyside Youth Games two years ago, when he won the long jump with a leap of 4m 09.

"He just loves sport and has just started playing football with Victoria Colts in the Wallasey Junior Soccer League."
