TESCO Bidston has put a curse on tinkers who set up home on the opposite side of the supermarket, near Bidston Station and golf club.

Staff have been told not to serve the troublesome tinkers. The 'gypsy curse' upset a passing, retired cleryman, who was filling up with petrol at Tesco. Two young children were refused soft drinks despite asking politely and having the correct money.

The cleryman tried to be a 'Good Samaritan' by asking for cans of drink on their behalf but he was also refused. "They were gypsy children, aged 10 to 12 years, but didn't seem to be doing any harm," the motorist told the Globe.

A spokesman for Tesco confirmed that they had put a ban of selling items to the tinkers because they are so troublesome.

"They are a nuisance and should not be where they are. We do not wish to encourage them and must protect the interests of our customers and staff."

Several caravans and vehicles have been parked right next to Bidston Station, highlighting an on-going problem Wirral Council has with visiting tinkers.
