WIRRAL South MP Ben Chapman is inviting his constituents to help him make Wirral a healthier place to live.

Mr Chapman is spearheading the Government's National Contract for Health by asking his constituents to let him know their views about air pollution, crime, housing and poverty and their effect on local people's health.

He promises to pass the message on to the Government, who are currently planning a national crusade to improve health and prolong lives.

Said Mr Chapman: "Far too many people in Wirral South are still falling ill more often and dying sooner than they should.

"We need to target special efforts on the big killers like heart disease and stroke."

The MP pointed out that 84 Wirral people under the age of 65 have died of coronary heart disease or a stroke in the last two years.

"We can only get that number down if we get everyone working in partnership to improve people's living conditions and health," he added.

A series of public meetings are currently being planned at which the public will be able to pass their views on to Mr Chapman in person.

"I'll be doing all I can to make sure that our voice is heard in the national debate. The Government has made a start but there's lots we can do ourselves."
