ELECTRICITY supplies to companies connected to the UML electricity network, powered by the Merseyside Power Station, Bromborough, have been secured for the future.

UML announced in January last year that the station, which currently supplies the network, will close at the end of 1998.

Regional energy company Manweb will continue electricity supplies to 45 industrial customers in the area once the station closes.

Said Manweb chief executive Charles Berry: "This agreement demonstrates the commitment of both Manweb and Unilever to the local economy."

More than £2 million will be spent on refurbishing and improving the network.
