BRITISH Transport Police are appealing for witnesses to a rail tragedy in which a 27-year-old Wallasey man died. Adam Stephens was struck by a train in the tunnel at Liverpool Central at 10.40pm on Friday. A police spokesman said they wanted to hear from anyone who saw the man leave the platform and enter the tunnel.

AROUND 20 homes around Park Road North were evacuated because of an early evening gas leak. Residents waited in Birkenhead Sixth Form College until the all clear.

EASTHAM councillor Tom Harney has given notice of motion to next Monday's full meeting of Wirral Council. He congratulates emergency services involved in the gas leak alert at Eastham. He wants the findings of the inquiry into the GATX incident made known to the public. He also wants improved warning systems for villagers.
