A MIDDLE-AGED man who often showed pornographic videos to three schoolboys, repeatedly told them, 'Mum's the word!'.

But the 13-year-olds did not understand what he meant and when a suspicious mother asked him to borrow one of the videos, he did.

When she saw the obscene content, she was horrified and alerted the police, who arrested 56-year-old Bromborough man Brian Doyle, Liverpool Crown Court heard on Monday.

She had initially become concerned because instead of talking about sport as usual, the boys became obsessed with sex, said Miss Wendy Lloyd, prosecuting.

Judge Ian Compton told Doyle that he had 'bombarded' the youngsters with 'filth'.

He jailed him for six months and ordered that he register under the Sex Offenders' Act for seven years.

The court heard that during a search of his home in Ashfield Crescent, Bromborough, officers found a sex fantasy he had written. The story centred on him having sex with a 12-year-old girl based around an innocent Polaroid photo he had taken of her.

Miss Lloyd said that Doyle, a health and safety officer, had given the boys alcohol and cigarettes. He also told them about his sexual exploits, showed them various magazines and let them play with condoms.

He pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting the girl, by patting her on the bottom and saying he would be in the shower if she needed him.

He also admitted three charges involving publishing obscene videos and photographs. Five charges of indecency and indecent assault involving the three boys, which he had denied, were laid on the file.

Mr Arthur Gibson, defending, said that Doyle, a divorcee with no previous convictions, would benefit from help rather than imprisonment.
