Tranmere Rovers . . . . 0, Notts Forest . . . . 0
Attendance: 7,377
JOHN Aldridge saluted the character of his patched up side, as Rovers earned a creditable draw against a Nottingham Forest side destined for a quick return to the Premiership.
Both goalkeepers excelled, Rovers' Steve Simonsen pulling off three world class saves, and Forest's Dave Beasant an astonishing point blank stop to deny Micky Mellon.
Former Tranmere favourites Alan Rogers and striker Ian Moore had excellent games for Forest, but a draw was fair.
Defender Alan Morgan epitomised the character of the side by volunteering to play at right back, despite carrying a knee injury that he should have been resting at home.
Striker Lee Jones also played through the pain barrier, but because of his troublesome knees he lacked his normal electric pace.
Tranmere: Simonsen, Morgan, Thompson, McGreal, Challinor, Irons, Mellon, Hill, G. Jones (sub Branch, 82 mins), O'Brien, L. Jones. Subs (not used) Koumas, McIntyre.
