FORMER commercial manager with Wirral Hospital Trust, Paul Smith, is charged with stealing more than £200,000 from the Trust. He is expected to appear before magistrates next month.
Mr Smith, of Bebington, was employed by Wirral Hospital Trust, which manages both Arrowe Park Hospital, Birkenhead, and Clatterbridge Hospital, Bebington.
Police confirm that the 47 year old has been arrested, charged and bailed. An officer said: "As a result of a complaint of theft made by Wirral Hospital NHS Trust, officers from the Major Crime Unit Fraud Wing began an inquiry. Paul Smith is charged with 32 specimen counts of theft from the Trust and is expected to appear before Wirral magistrates on April 2."
It is understood Mr Smith started working for the hospital as a storeman more than 20 years ago, progressing up the ladder to commercial manager.
