Super send off for boss Alvin!

POULTON Victoria completed a league and cup double with a 1-0 Bank Holiday win over Heswall in the Pyke Cup Final, thanks to a superb long range Dave Mayes goal.

The win gave Vics manager Alvin McDonald a clean sweep of local trophies in his triumphant six year managerial reign at Vics which ends after tomorrow's Wirral Senior Cup Final v Heswall at Cammell Laird (kick-off 7pm). McDonald is taking over at North West Counties Division One side Vauxhall, and Vics will name their new manager shortly.

The battle for Division One runners up spot continued in the week and Stork followed up a 1-0 success at Shell, losing 2-0 at closest rivals Ashville, thanks to goals from Jason Broadbent and Neil Young. This meant Stork had to beat Poulton Vics on Saturday, and despite taking the lead through Paul Wiggins, Vics goalkeeper for the day Mark Jones converted a penalty and helped Vics to a 3-2 win. Nicky Dillon made it 2-1 to Vics, Alan Kline equalised before Simon Lewis fired Vics 100th goal of the season to give Ashville second spot.
