SPECULATION is rife that Trannmere are to bring former utility star Ged Brannan back to Prenton Park, after he has been told he can leave troubled Manchester City.

The former Rovers midfielder/defender has endured an unhappy spell at Maine Road, since his £750,000 move from Tranmere just 14 months ago. He suffered a broken leg this season, and has become a target for the City boo boys.

Following Manchester City's relegation to Nationwide League Division Two, manager Joe Royle has released half of his first team squad, and Brannan is one of a number of 'big names' on the transfer list.

Tranmere manager John Aldridge is known to be a big admirer of Brannan.

Said Brannan: "It's just speculation at the moment. Obviously I would have to think about it if anything did happen. It has been disappointing for me at Manchester City, and I haven't had the chance to show my best form."
