NESS GARDENS and the 1st Burton Scout Group are to join forces for a open-air musical extravaganza to celebrate their two anniversaries this year.

Wirral's famous Ness Gardens is to mark its 100th anniversary in association with the 1st Burton Scout Group, whose members are celebrating 50 years.

The Centenary Classics concert in the Gardens will feature the Philharmonic Concert Orchestra conducted by Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra member Edward Peak on Saturday June 13.

The programme spotlights soloist Geraint Dodd, with an extra treat before the concert proper of a session from the Peninsular Jazz Band, who perform from 6pm to 8pm.

Concert-goers are encouraged to bring along a picnic, chairs and, of course, wet weather clothing just in case!

Group Scout Leader Les Roberts said: "We staged a concert at Ness Gardens last year to raise money for a new Scout hut. It was such an outstanding success that we decided to repeat the venture this year to celebrate our 50th anniversary."

Tickets cost £15 each and a limited number of £9 child tickets are available.

Credit card bookings can be made by calling 336-6626.

Tickets can also be purchased from J.A. Allister Opticians, S&M Haberdashery, Neston and Little Neston Post Office, or by sending an SAE and cheque, made payable to 1st Burton Concert, to Benjamin Morris and Co, 18a Brook Street, Neston, South Wirral, L64 4DN.
