THIS Friday sees the start of Environment week, which runs from 15-25 May, a national event focusing on green groups, activities and issues.

For Wirral, events start at the Wirral Eco Centre, Wallasey, on Saturday, May 16, where there will be an open day including the chance to look behind the scenes. There will be plenty of displays, info and activities from local green groups.

On the Wednesday, there is the chance to meet some Wirral Green Alliance (WGA) members and find out more about the organisation. The meeting begins at 8pm in the Crown Pub, Birkenhead.

WGA's final event will be the launch of Wirral's newest Local Exchange Trading Scheme (LETS) and will include a visit from Angela Eagle MP. Volunteers will explain how LETS works and give people a chance to bring and swop ideas and enthusiasm. The launch will take place at CVS Community room, Liscard Road, Wallasey, next to Eco Centre.
