WALLASEY MP Angela Eagle joined Mayor and Mayoress of Wirral, Coun Barney and Agnes Gilfoyle to open the Wallasey CVS Place in the Park Care Centre.

The recently refurbished centre, described as a perfect model for partnership in Care in the Community, is used by many local care organisations such as Headway Wirral, the organisation for people with head injuries and their families.

The improvements to the Place in the Park (PIP for short) which have been paid for by a grant from the local authorities, include facilities for the disabled as well as access and work areas for people in wheelchairs. The Child Support Agency provided a team from their Woodside offices to decorate the centre as part of Business in the Communities Christmas Challenge, and the local training agency Serve Wirral has been responsible for recovering furniture, kindly paid for by Wallasey Lions.

Said Joan Bennett, Company Secretary for Wallasey CVS (pictured): "We're really proud of what has been achieved with the PIP, we've brought the public, private and voluntary sector together to work in a true partnership to provide an ideal centre for the provision of care services in Wallasey.

"The Place in the Park is an example of how Wallasey CVS can make use of its unique expertise in finding new ways of working with public and private agencies to benefit the most disadvantaged groups in our society."
