From Roger Banister,
UNISON National Executive
Council (Personal Capacity):-
I WAS staggered to learn that the annual budget of OFSTED, the inspectorate for schools, is £120 million per year. To put it into persepective, that amount represents almost £1m for every Education Authority in England and Wales. Wouldn't our children be better served if that money were spent on renewing decrepit schools, employing teachers, and buying books and much needed computer equipment? Perhaps then there would be a lot less schools to 'name and shame', and we could all have a welcome break from Mr Woodhead's right wing views on education.
