Touring Cars at Oulton May 24/25

THE motor sport/event season is really upon us now, with something to do nearly every weekend, writes Globe motoring editor Robin Bird.

Big local race meeting is the British Touring Car Championship weekend at Oulton , May 24 and 25, while the Blackpool made Tuscans start June at Oulton on June 6. Hot hatches follow June 13, Midsummer Cars Races on June 20, then my favourite, the Sir Henry Segrave vintage race on June 27. Touring Cars are at Brands Hatch over the weekend of May 16 and 17.

Over 1,300 classic cars have entered the 1998 RAC Classic on Sunday, May 31, with a Chester start-details to follow.

The MGF Cup meetings continue at Silverstone, May 16 and 17, Croft May 23 and 24, then various other race tracks.

Chester Vintage Enthusiasts were on their navigation run last night (Tuesday) and have a stand at the Chester Festival of Transport, May 16 and 17. Tatton Park Classic Car Weekend is May 31, while Chester Vintage will be attending various events in June with their own concours evening at the Rake on June 9. Wirral Classic Car Club also has a busy programme of events with a lunchtime meeting scheduled for Sunday, may 24 at Pollard's Inn, Willaston. Their Car of the Year event is June 26. Further details from Blair Percival, 625 7632.
