LONGCROFT are the winners of the Merseyside Inter Church League Cup, after beating Greasby Methodists 2-0, at Prenton Park, home of Tranmere Rovers FC.

Steve Parry was the hero, scoring twice. He has just signed for Unibond Premier League club Marine and will play in their youth team.

Team-mate, goalkeeper Danny Westhead, is having trials for Premiership side Nottingham Forest.

The Bishop of Birkenhead presented Longcroft with the cup.

Greasby almost completed a double in the cup final, as they have already won the Merseyside Inter-Church 150 Soccer League title, finishing six points clear of nearest rivals Trinity Rainhill.

The league is so-called because the combined ages of all players in a team must not exceed that number of years. It has just finished its second season, with five teams from Wirral and two from Liverpool. Maximum permitted age for players is 16.
