WIRRAL Equestrian Club is to hold a unique national qualifier for veteran horses and ponies at the Backwood Hall Farm, Boathouse Lane, Parkgate.

The Super Solvitax R-A Formula Veteran class is run at shows all over the country, leading to a national final at the end of the year.

The show, on Sunday June 7, will include one of the qualifiers open to inhand and ridden showing classes.

The winner of the prestigious class, open to horses and ponies over the age of 15, goes through to the final with the chance of winning a wide range of riding equipment and prizes from the sponsors, Seven Seas Pet and Animal Health Care.

The overall winner at the end of the year takes the prestigious Super Solvitax R-A Formula Veteran Horse/Pony of the year award.

Said Tony Day, of Seven Seas: "The demand for these classes has been quite phenomenal. We are delighted that riders recognise that older horses and ponies can be almost, if not more, fit than their younger counterparts."
