TRANMERE Rovers Football Club are saddened to report the death of Directors' Box senior steward Charlie Haig.

Charlie, who lived in Birkenhead, died on May 12. He served the club for over 40 years and was a very popular figure among players, staff and visitors alike.

Paying tribute, club chairman Frank Corfe said: "Charlie was one of the old school and a very popular figure who served this club for many years. He was very popular with guests and showed them all to their seats. Charlie did so much to enhance this club's reputation with visitors.

"He had indicated his wish to retire, and members of the Dixie Dean Suite presented him with a magnum of champagne."
