FOLLOWING funding problems with the Hamilton Square project, Birkenhead's Hamilton Quarter will report major difficulties with its Antiques Triangle. The contractor working on the cornerstone Waterloo Buildings has gone into receivership and work has halted for re-tendering.

Talks with the owner of Minerva Buildings, Hamilton Street, for the creation of managed workshops for local arts practitioners have collapsed. A draft consultant's report on the Hamilton Quarter's cultural development strategy suggests there is no justification, at this stage, for an arts resource centre in the area.

Full funding for the Hamilton Square traffic scheme has not been secured. An update report to Wirral councillors, on June 1, also says a decision is awaited for extending the tramway to Taylor Street.
