CALDY won by five wickets at Prestatyn to close the gap on leaders St Asaph in the Paints Merseyside Competition. Dave Aston hit an undefeated 65 and Peter Urwin took 4-49.

Caldy remain third on 155 points. Wavertree have 157 and the Welsh club, who were held to a draw by Rainhill, 175 points.

Irby won a thriller at Prescot & Odyssey by one wicket off the last ball. Kevin Coppell starred with 47.

Port Sunlight went under by eight wickets at home to Runcorn. Danny Gulliver top scored with 55.

Parkonians maintained their 19 points lead over Wrexham at the top of Division Two with a seven wickets success at Nalgo, where Dave Holdsworth made 53 not out and Chris Hitchell took 4-19.

Wirral and Eastham Bromborough won local derbies with the third between Mersey Park and Parkfield drawn.

Daryl Hempstalk claimed 43 for Wirral with 65 runs to spare against Birkenhead St Mary's, for whom Les Roberts took 5-59.

Eastham Bromborough beat Tranmere Vics by 53 runs. Russ Williams took 4-25. Best for Mersey Park were Martin Walker, 74, Dave Devling, 48, and Peter Gray 6-39. Parkfield closed 74 runs behind with two wickets intact.
