ARMISTICE DAY. At 11am today (Wednesday) there will be two minutes' silence for those who died in World War One, 'the war to end all wars'.
Few survivors remain now, 80 years after the Great War's Amistice. It is hard to imagine the carnage.
Imagine therefore Wilfred Owen (pictured), a son of Birkenhead, as a John Lennon. His war poetry could be compared to the talent of Lennon and McCartney.
The former Birkenhead Institute boy was awarded the Military Cross for conspicious gallantry, only to be killed days before the end of World War One.
News of his death reached home as the Armistice bells were ringing. Think of him and those who also fell today. Wirral Libraries can supply information on Wilfred Owen.
