From Stephen Clinton-Raynor:

I WRITE as a supporter of the Wirral into Cheshire campaign. The change of postcode from 'L' to 'CH' has raised this issue to the forefront in the Wirral.

The change of postcode is a step in the right direction, but we need to go much further and to remove the Merseyside label completely! The artificial county of Merseyside was forced upon us without our consent and against the wishes of the people of Wirral. In 1974, they tried to wipe out hundreds of years of history. The fact is we've been part of Cheshire since the Doomsday Book and before that ! And those who call the people who wish to return to Cheshire snobs(Mailbox, March 17) are only showing their crass ignorance. After all, you can't call what is part of our history snobbery.

The county of Cheshire is part of our history. Nothing can take that away! And one day we will regain what is rightfully ours.
