THE Volkswagen Golf GTI is to receive the 2.0-litre engine from the New VW Beetle, replacing the existing 1.8-litre unit, to bring extra refinement, more torque at low engine speeds and even better fuel consumption to the model. Prices of the GTI, though, do not change at Smith Knight Fay.

The maximum torque figure of 125lbs ft is unchanged, but in the 2.0-litre fuel consumption is an area of improvement with the combined fuel consumption figure increasing to 35.8 mpg.

A three-door Golf GTI is still priced at £15,955 with a five-door version available for £16,575. There is no change either to the comprehensive equipment levels of the GTI which are just as luxurious, features include electric sunroof with pre-select switch, height adjustable steering wheel, central locking and alarm, electrically heated and adjustable mirrors.
