JOHN Aldridge described Tranmere's performance as "absolutely woeful" as they let a two goal lead slip to lowly Oxford at Prenton Park on Easter Monday.

Battling to stay in the Nationwide League Division One, Oxford showed more spirit and endeavour while Tranmere, who have taken just one point out of six from the Easter programme, just expected a victory.

Rovers were handed a two goal lead with two penalties which skipper Kenny Irons converted for his 15th and 16th goals of the season. The first when Kevin Francis was adjudged to be pulling Georges Santos' shirt and the second when the otherwise subdued Scott Taylor was brought down in the penalty area.

The second-half started with Tranmere going through the motions and Oxford made a tactical reshuffle with three strikers. One of those, Simon Weatherstone, pulled a goal back, and with three minutes to go poor defending allowed Phil Gilchrist to fire home an equaliser.

Tranmere: Achterberg, Allen, Thompson, McGreal, Challinor, Irons, Mahon, Santos, Kelly, Taylor (sub: L. Jones, 75 mins), O'Brien (sub: G. Jones, 69 mins). Unused sub: Hill.
