3-year project to improve quality of life in old part of Birkenhead

TRANMERE Housing Regeneration Partnership has kicked off a three year programme which will see the regeneration of the Tranmere area.

Still in its infinity, the partnership - it comprises the Housing Corporation, Wirral Council and Riverside and Maritime Housing Association - has already purchased and refurbished 15 homes, between Mersey Park and Victoria Park, Tranmere.

Lisa McKevitt and her grandmother, Muriel Warburton, have just moved back into the road where Lisa was brought up. Said Lisa: "The house is just brilliant with a new kitchen, bathroom and double glazing. We are both made up to be back in this area."

Throughout the project, the residents are being consulted about the work, which also includes developing environmental projects with Groundwork in local schools, improving safety and security with better street lighting and grants to improve security in the home.

In addition to the major improvements to older properties, Riverside has also built six new houses in Kelvin Road.

Project manager Rob Young said: "With the commitment of all the agencies and the local community, we are making great progress in the regeneration of Tranmere. The area is certainly on the up!"
