MURDER investigation police attended Wirral Chamber of Commerce and Industry's 88th annual meeting in case members had any further information to help them regarding the death of Birkenhead solicitor Cheryl Lewis.

It was a low-profile presence at an otherwise happy occasion to mark the 50th anniversary of Lord Leverhulme's presidency of the Chamber.

Before lunch at Hulme Hall, members stood in silence in memory of Cheryl, a vice chairman of the Chamber.

Guest speaker Nick Reilly, chairman and MD of Vauxhall Motors, gave a thought-provoking address forecasting a 24-hour service industry. "Why," he asked, "shouldn't a Vauxhall dealership be open 24 hours a day?

"You have the added benefit of customer satisfaction. You would be able to service cars during the night when customers are asleep. I am sure the same applies to other services like banks, estate agents and local councils."

Then came the presentation to Lord Leverhulme of a painting of his beloved dog Seventy. The dog was adopted by Lord Leverhulme on his 70th birthday, hence the name. Lord Leverhulme was visibly moved by the gift and offered his home for a Chamber event in the Millennium.

Nominations for the board were accepted as John Ellershaw, Rob Fearon, Larry Embra, John Reeves and Ken Davies.
