VICTORY for the Fielding family of Heswall family - a life-saving memorial has been erected to their son on the Chester High Road. It's a 40 mph sign near the spot where teenager Andrew was killed.

Parents David and Pauline Fielding have been campaigning for a speed reduction since the fatal road accident in June 1994. Now the Highways and Transportation Local Joint Committee for Ellesmere Port and Neston has agreed to reduce the speed limit on the A540 Chester High Road from 60mph to 40mph.

Said Pauline Fielding: "I am very pleased with this decision. Reducing the speed limit to 40 mph is much better than 60 mph but we can't be complacent with this. I would like to do something about the actual place where Andrew was killed (junction of Raby Park Road and Chester High Road). I have had wonderful support from Wirral South MP Ben Chapman and Ellesmere Port and Neston MP Andrew Miller. I would like to thank the Globe, too, for highlighting our campaign."

Said Ben Chapman MP: "I have been pleased to support Pauline Fielding in her efforts to secure a reduction of the speed limit on this road. I, like many of my constituents, use the road regularly and have felt for some time that it represented an accident waiting to happen. Speed is a killer and I am delighted that this proposal has been made and when implemented am sure it will go a long way in reducing accidents and the risk of accidents.

"Pauline Fielding has fought long and hard for these measures and I think a great deal of credit should go to her for her tenacity and persistence which has in no small measure resulted in the proposal to reduce the speed limit."
