THE Renault Megane range triumphed twice at the 1999 Auto Express Used Car Awards, securing the coveted 'compact family' award and best convertible.

The Auto Express Used Car Awards jury looked for particular qualities in the winning cars, dependent on the award category, and for the compact family category insisted on 'dependable, practical, versatile and economical' cars which are 'value for money.' Scoring five stars out of five for depreciation, and four stars for whole life costs and driver appeal, Auto Express believes the Renault Megane 'has the lot,' with models such as Hatch, Classic and Scenic, keen on-road ability, decent build quality, a highly impressive safety agenda, hardy residuals, yet tempting screen prices.

Looks, style and easy-to-operate hood counts for the winning convertible, and Auto Express chose the Megane Cabriolet as the winner of this category, not only for its stylish looks but also for its aggressive pricing, five star depreciation and whole life costs and the 1.6e's low insurance costs and high fuel efficiency.
