THE River Mersey, off Egremont, was the scene of a major bomb alert last week. A rusty gas bottle was mistaken for an unexploded WWII bomb and a Navy Bomb Disposal Team spent five hours driving from Plymouth to attend.
Police and Wirral Council threw a cordon around the area and evacuated Riversdale Primary School. The false alarm by several residents was well intended.
