BUSY Neston Town Centre is to be subject of major road works during July and August. Special traffic arrangements will have to be made when renewal of the water mains is carried out by North West Water.
The market town will have road closures including Chester High Street, Brook Street and Bridge Street. Shops and customers will be advised of dates and duration at a later stage. North West Water says diversions will be fully signed.
The work involves 655 properties and is part of a £2.4m project to improve water quality by replacing old iron mains over a 14-month period.
North West Water has been keeping disruption to a minimum but the town centre closures are expected to cause traffic problems and delays.
Work on the current phase started on May 18, North West Water plans to hold an evening meeting shortly before moving into the town centre.
Engineer overseeing the project, John Maher said it was essential to replace the old mains to meet more stringent standards of water quality.
"We anticipate it will cause some problems with traffic in the centre. Work will be done to minimise disturbance to businesses and local residents," he said.
