LAND Rover's Freelander and Discovery and the Rover 75 have all won Car of the Year awards in the coveted Auto Express New Car Honours 1999.

Rover 75 2.0 CDT has been voted by the editorial team of leading car magazine Auto Express as diesel car of the year. Powered by the latest common-rail version of BMW's M47 turbocharged diesel engine, the Rover 75 2.0 CDT has been widely acclaimed for its driveability, economy and outstanding refinement. The Rover 75 is also the overall What Car? Car of the Year 1999.

Land Rover's Freelander has taken the recreational vehicle award for the second year running. Introduced at the start of 1998, Freelander is the top selling 4x4 off-road vehicle in Europe and has a 37 per cent market share of the UK small 4x4 sector. Freelander was the overall What Car? magazine Car of the Year 1998.

The all-new Land Rover Discovery has won the best 4x4 off-roader award. While retaining strong design cues carried over from the original model, the new Discovery features pioneering 4x4 technology such as active cornering enhancement, electronic brake distribution, self levelling rear suspension and four-wheel traction control. A new five cylinder diesel engine and forward facing seating for seven are also available.
