CHESTER Vintage Enthusiasts celebrated 40 years as a club with a Ruby Run on Sunday. CEVC drivers are known for regularly using their pre-war cars, many of which were polished and waxed for the birthday rally from the Royal Oak, Little Neston, to Blakemere Craft Centre.

A Bugatti birthday cake was baked by Maggie Hughes, neighbour of rally organiser and club member Mike Daly, of Little Neston.

The birthday cake welcomed back drivers and passengers to Rake Hall, near Outlet Village, where the vintage cars were put on display and members chatted about the good old days.

Club president is Ray Stokes while chairman Cliff Evans is pictured below cutting the Bugatti cake with wife Ella and club founder Ron Lee.

Mike Daly outlined the route from Little Neston to the Vidlers from Prenton in one of the earliest cars, a 1920's Cadillac. Oldest car in the Ruby Run was Cooper's 1913 Scout from Wallasey.

Club secretary Martin Hughes, of Birkenhead, was in a Bentley with his daughter and Blair Percival, of Wirral Classic Car Club.

CVEC hosts a classic concours night at the Rake on August 10.
